Orson Oriel Richins Homestead Revisited
I missed out on the May 2002 expedition to the Orson Oriel Richins homestead. I convinced my father and grandfather to make a revisit in December 2003 so I could see it. I am so glad I did! It was amazing how remote the area is and I marveled how Grandfather Orson could eke out a living in the desert.
In Search of the Orson Oriel Richins Homestead
Orson Oriel Richins and Rachel Hennefer established a homestead in southwestern New Mexico after being forced from their ranch in Colonia Diaz during the Mexican revolution. In 2002, descendants of Orson & Rachel set out to find the homestead site, which is located on private ranch land.
A Family History Adventure in the Mexican Colonies (1951)
In 1951, the Richardson family embarked on an adventure to visit the locations of their former homes in northern Mexico. They spent four days on the road visiting Colonia Dublan, Colonia Juarez, and Colonia Diaz. So many memories!
