Prudence Priscilla Richins
Prudence Priscilla Richins was born on January 8, 1860 in Salt Lake City, Utah. A year later her family moved moved to Heneferville, Summit County, Utah. Her father, Charles Richins, had been called by President Brigham Young to help settle this village. He was later ordained bishop of the Hennefer Ward. Prudence grew up in Hennefer and married Joseph William Bond. Much of their married life was spent building up Mesa, Arizona, where she passed away in 1932 at the age of 72 years.
Ether Wellington Richins
Ether Wellington Richins was born to Orson Oriel & Rachel Richins in Colonia Diaz, Chihuahua, Mexico on October 14, 1902. His family fled Mexico in 1912 during the Mexican Revolution. They homesteaded in the Hatchet Valley south of Hachita, New Mexico about three miles west of the Mexican border. Ether died in El Paso, Texas January 21, 1973.
Ena Agnes Richins
Ena Agnes Richins was born in Colonia Diaz, Chihuahua, Mexico on January 3, 1906 and died December 1, 1992 in Las Cruces, Dona Ana, New Mexico. She was buried on December 5, 1992 in Lordsburg, Hidalgo, New Mexico. Her early childhood days were spent on the farm in Colonia Diaz, Mexico. The last part of her life was spent serving the people of Hidalgo County, NM in various capacities.
Charles Richins
Charles Richins and his young family moved from England to Utah in 1853 as part of the pioneer migration of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They lived in Salt Lake City seven years before helping to settle Henefer, Utah. Charles was Bishop of the Henefer Ward from 1861-1890, after which time he moved to Mexico, where he died in 1903 at the age of 75.
Thomas Richins & Harriet Deveraux: A Short History
Thomas and Esther traveled to Salt Lake City, Utah from England in 1856. They lived in Salt Lake for four or five years before helping settle what is now Goshen, Utah County, Utah. Harriet died in 1896; Thomas died in 1896. They are buried in the Pleasant Grove (Utah) City Cemetery.
Richard Richins & Charlotte Priscilla Wager
Richard Richins was christened March 26, 1800 in Painswick, Gloucestershire, England. Richard lived with family on a large estate called Ebworth, where his father was a farm laborer. Richard married (Charlotte) Priscilla Wager on October 28, 1817. Priscilla was born in 1799, and was about 18 years old when they married. Richard worked as a laborer on the Ebworth Estate. They married young, and died young. Priscilla was only 42, when she died of complications of childbirth in 1842. Richard died of intemperance in 1848.
William Richins & Charlotte Ann Guy
William was the sixth child born to Henry Richins and Sarah Haynes on December 27, 1806 at Ebworth Park in Sheepscombe, Gloucestershire, England. Charlotte AnnGuy was born November 30, 1806. They were married at the Painswick Church on January 29, 1826. All of William's and Charlotte’s family joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and emigrated to Utah in 1866. William died on December 8, 1873 in Provo, Utah. Charlotte lived in Henefer, Utah until her death in 1878.
John Willmott Richins
John Willmott Richins was born September 13, 1895, at Colonia Diaz, Chihuahua, Mexico to Orson Oriel and Agnes Richins. In 1912, John fled Mexico to the United States during the Mexican Revolution and stayed in Hachita, New Mexico and Jenefer, Utah. In 1913, John and his mother moved to Richfield, Utah and then to Oakley and Burley, Idaho. John eventually moved to Provo, Utah where he lived out his life.
They Crossed the Plains with a Handcart
In March of 1856, Elder Edmund Ellsworth was instructed to lead 529 LDS church members aboard the sailing ship Enoch Train to Utah. They set sail at Liverpool, England bound for Boston, USA. This was the first group that traveled with the aid of the Perpetual Immigration Fund and crossed the plains with handcarts. Sarah Amanda Shurtliff
Sarah Amanda Shurtliff ("Sade") was born January 22, 1865 in Harrisville, Utah. Her father, Luman Andrel Shurtliff, joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints after hearing Joseph Smith speak. After her first husband, Silas Harper was killed in an accident, Sarah married Orson Oriel Richins and had six more children while living in Mexico. There, she managed a store and a restaurant and made cheeses to sell. She passed away in Virden, New Mexico on October 25, 1947.
